While redistributing the Work or Derivative Works thereof, You may choose to offer, and charge a fee for, acceptance of support, warranty, indemnity, or other liability obligations and/or rights consistent with this License. However, in accepting such obligations, You may act only on Your own behalf and on Your sole responsibility, not on behalf of any other Contributor, and only if You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold each Contributor harmless for any liability incurred by, or claims asserted against, such Contributor by reason of your accepting any such warranty or additional liability. # MAX-BLE-HCI
Python3 BLE HCI over serial Directed to MAX Vendor Specific Commands
Read the [Docs](https://analog-devices-msdk.github.io/MAX-BLE-HCI/)
## Insatll from PyPi
MAX-BLE-HCI is hosted via PyPi and can be installed with the following command
```bash
pip install max-ble-hci
```
## Installation from source
If you prefer to use the most up to date version, you can also install from source.
The intsall.sh or .bat are used to install the library into your Python site packages and be done as such.
On Linux or MacOS
```bash
sudo chmod +x install.sh
./install.sh
```
On Windows
```cmd
install.bat
```
## Basic Usage
The BLE-HCI is a mostly generic library, which is capable of driving any BLE devices which can communicate using the UART transport.
To use with Analog Devices, Inc. BLE capable MAX32 microcontrollers, please flash one of the following examples to the chip you are using
- [MAX32655](https://github.com/Analog-Devices-MSDK/msdk/tree/main/Examples/MAX32655/Bluetooth/BLE5_ctr)
- [MAX32665](https://github.com/Analog-Devices-MSDK/msdk/tree/main/Examples/MAX32665/Bluetooth/BLE5_ctr)
- [MAX32690](https://github.com/Analog-Devices-MSDK/msdk/tree/main/Examples/MAX32690/Bluetooth/BLE5_ctr)
If you have not yet set up an installation of the Analog-Devices-MSDK, please follow the instructions found here <https://github.com/Analog-Devices-MSDK/msdk/tree/main>
Once the board is flashed refer to the README in the example to configure your board.
Locate the serial port to which the HCI is connected to. If for example, your serial port is COM5, the following code would be used to reset the device.
```python
from max_ble_hci import BleHci
port_name = "COM5"
hci = BleHci(port_name)
hci.reset()
```
## Command Line Interface (CLI)
By default, the CLI capable of driving the BLE-HCI is installed as part of the package and can be accessed by running
```bash
max_ble_hci -h
usage: max_ble_hci [-h] [--version] [-b BAUDRATE] [-efc] [-m MONPORT] [-i IDTAG] [-c [COMMANDS ...]] [--startup-script STARTUP_SCRIPT] [-t TRACE_LEVEL]
serial_port
Bluetooth Low Energy HCI tool.
This tool is used in tandem with the BLE controller examples.
This tool sends HCI commands through the serial port to the target device.
It will receive and print the HCI events received from the target device.
Serial port is configured as 8N1, no flow control, default baud rate of 115200
positional arguments:
serial_port Serial port path or COM#
options:
-h, --help show this help message and exit
--version show program's version number and exit
-b BAUDRATE, --baud BAUDRATE
Serial port baud rate. Default: 115200
-efc, --enable-flow-control
Enable flow control Default: False
-m MONPORT, --monitor-trace-port MONPORT
Monitor Trace Msg Serial Port path or COM#. Default: None
-i IDTAG, --id-tag IDTAG
Board ID tag for printing trace messages. Default: None
-c [COMMANDS ...], --commands [COMMANDS ...]
Commands to run on startup.
If more than 1, separate commands with a semicolon (;).
--startup-script STARTUP_SCRIPT
Filepath to to run startup commands.
Commands should be newline seperated
-t TRACE_LEVEL, --trace_level TRACE_LEVEL
Set the trace level
0: Error only
1: Warning/Error
2: Info/Warning/Error
3: All messages
Default: 3
```
The cli requires a serial port to connect the HCI to and is passed in through the command line.
Once connected, you can type the help command as such, and begin to explore the CLI.
```bash
>>> help
usage: [-h]
You may add Your own copyright statement to Your modifications and may provide additional or different license terms and conditions for use, reproduction, or distribution of Your modifications, or for any such Derivative Works as a whole, provided Your use, reproduction, and distribution of the Work otherwise complies with the conditions stated in this License. 5. Submission of Contributions. Unless You explicitly state otherwise, any Contribution intentionally submitted for inclusion in the Work by You to the Licensor shall be under the terms and conditions of this License, without any additional terms or conditions. Notwithstanding the above, nothing herein shall supersede or modify the terms of any separate license agreement you may have executed with Licensor regarding such Contributions. 6. Trademarks. This License does not grant permission to use the trade names, trademarks, service marks, or product names of the Licensor, except as required for reasonable and customary use in describing the origin of the Work and reproducing the content of the NOTICE file. 7. Disclaimer of Warranty. Unless required by applicable law or agreed to in writing, Licensor provides the Work (and each Contributor provides its Contributions) on an \"AS IS\" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, either express or implied, including, without limitation, any warranties or conditions of TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, MERCHANTABILITY, or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. You are solely responsible for determining the appropriateness of using or redistributing the Work and assume any risks associated with Your exercise of permissions under this License. 8. Limitation of Liability. In no event and under no legal theory, whether in tort (including negligence), contract, or otherwise, unless required by applicable law (such as deliberate and grossly negligent acts) or agreed to in writing, shall any Contributor be liable to You for damages, including any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages of any character arising as a result of this License or out of the use or inability to use the Work (including but not limited to damages for loss of goodwill, work stoppage, computer failure or malfunction, or any and all other commercial damages or losses), even if such Contributor has been advised of the possibility of such damages. 9. Accepting Warranty or Additional Liability. While redistributing the Work or Derivative Works thereof, You may choose to offer, and charge a fee for, acceptance of support, warranty, indemnity, or other liability obligations and/or rights consistent with this License. However, in accepting such obligations, You may act only on Your own behalf and on Your sole responsibility, not on behalf of any other Contributor, and only if You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold each Contributor harmless for any liability incurred by, or claims asserted against, such Contributor by reason of your accepting any such warranty or additional liability.
